Schedule

“The Absolute Beginner” is an introductory course that has been designed for students who have little or no experience with metal working. Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the machinery and tools involved in metal-working, as well as the safety procedures crucial to operating all of the equipment. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with basic techniques, such as designing, sawing, filing and sanding, soldering, texturing, annealing, roller printing and polishing. These techniques are all used to manipulate various metals into different shapes and components, allowing students to create their own unique pieces (clasps, pendants, rings, etc.). The first in-class assignment will be to create a ring. Each student will be given 10g of sterling silver for this project. Other in-class projects include a double band ring, roller print earrings, a pendant, or a cuff bangle. Additional materials used will be charged in addition to the course cost. This course is divided into five sessions, each three hours long. Classes will take place weekly.

Total in-class time: 15 hours
